GREATER EGG HARBOR REGIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT OFFERINGS

Guidance and Child Study Team

Grades 9-12

Across the District, we have 13 Guidance Counselors and 10 Child Study Team members (School Psychologists, Social Workers, LDTCs, and Speech Therapists), ensuring excellent access to assistance for our students and families. For reference, the American School Counselor Association recently identified New Jersey as averaging 337 students per counselor, so Greater Egg’s average case-load of approximately 225 students per counselor is FAR better than the state average.

QPR Training

Grade 10

Question/Persuade/Refer (QPR) training takes place in all grade 10 classrooms to provide strategies on what signs to look for and how to be a support for a peer. The training is centered around the "see something, say something" model and provides students with where to seek help when needed.

Teen Mental Health First Aid is a national program for suicide prevention that is taught to all grade 11 students. The training teaches teens the skills to have supportive conversations with their friends and how to seek help from a responsible and trusted adult.

Transition Toolbox Training

Grade 12 students receive this seminar to provide awareness of the challenges that take place during life's  transitional phases. Students are made aware of signs to look for and receive strategies to navigate through the struggles that may take place with the transition from high school to post secondary options.

TIER 3: INTENSE Supports for SPECIFIED Students

ESS Clinical Support Teams

Grades 9-12

This in-house program provides intensive clinical interventions for students with moderate to severe mental health issues. Group counseling and weekly academic and behavioral monitoring create a supportive atmosphere within which students can practice good habits and build independence. Families are included in this process, and encouraged to participate, so students receive consistent messaging at home and in school.

Insite Health Counseling

Grades 9-12

This off-site/remote service provides counseling for more severe mental health diagnoses, as well as working with our Administration and CST when Psychiatric Evaluations are required. Counseling and assessment may be in-person or via remote link, according to need.

New Hope Recovery Centers

Grades 9-12

GEHR is able to refer students struggling with addiction for in-patient and remote counseling. The level of treatment is determined by New Hope staff and GEHR does not play a direct role in that process. GEHR does not bear any financial liability (other than educational services), though New Hope does offer multiple financial pathways to access services.

Not all services are appropriate for all students. Greater Egg Harbor Regional Administration and Student Services Personnel will work with students and their families to determine which specific services provide the appropriate assistance and offer the greatest opportunity for success.
For more specific information, please contact the Principal of your child’s school (or home school, for Middle School families).
