Music Theory is designed to provide higher understanding of how music is composed. This course will teach the basics of composition and analysis through the understanding of key and time signatures, chord and interval function, chorale writing, as well as ear training and sight singing. The ultimate goal of the course is to take student musicianship to a deeper level by furthering the understanding of what may already be known from participating in a performing ensemble. Understanding music theory will help to create a more well rounded musician.
This year at Absegami, we are offering two tracks within the music theory curriculum, and Honors course as well as AP. While the class content overlaps in many areas, the AP configuration will put heavy emphasis on the singing and ear training components.
