Culinary Arts

  • Absegami High School has expanded the Culinary career and technological educational program by partnering with Atlantic Cape Community College. Students who successfully complete at least three years of the GEHRHSD culinary courses will receive articulated credit upon attending Atlantic Cape's Culinary Program. In addition to coursework, students must earn ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification, an industry-valued credential, to be eligible for articulated credits. Extensive hands-on learning experience throughout the program provides preparation that enables students to take a 4th-year course entirely on-site at Atlantic Cape.

Students enrolled in the culinary arts program at Absegami receive hands-on instruction in all areas of the industry including front-of-house and back-of-house operations, menu design, cost analysis, baking, food science, nutrition, and current trends in the industry. The GEHRHSD recently purchased a district food truck and created school BBQ teams that will compete at the district and local levels. Students will gain experience working in a food truck through different school events. The culinary team is also responsible for many school luncheons, staff dinners, awards banquets, and other school events. Students develop recipes, cooks meals, and serves students, staff, and community members. This comprehensive program is great for anyone who enjoys cooking from the in-home chef to a Michelin-starred restauranteur.
